My Story
My name is Faye Halls, and my Squamish name is Yeltsilewet. I am the youngest daughter of the late Khot-La-Cha (Chief Simon Baker) and Emily Rivers. I was born and raised in Xwmélch’sten, where I grew up surrounded by the cultural teachings and values passed down through my family and community.
Over the course of my life, I’ve lived both on and off-reserve, and I know firsthand the unique challenges our members face in both places. These experiences shaped my deep commitment to fairness, opportunity, and inclusion for all Squamish People.
For more than 20 years, I have worked in leadership roles within our Nation. I helped build and lead programs such as the Eslha7an Learning Centre, the Squamish Nation Trades Centre, and our first Human Resources Department. Each of these initiatives was created with one purpose in mind: to open doors for our people — doors to training, jobs, and long-term leadership.
My work has always been guided by the belief that decision-making should come from our values, honour our Elders, and empower our youth. As an Elder myself, I feel a responsibility to guide, support, and uplift the next generation while standing firmly for fairness and respect in governance.
I am running for Council because I believe we need to bring Council and community closer together. If elected, I will continue to focus on housing, jobs, services, and economic opportunities that support all members, on and off-reserve. Together, we can build a stronger, more united Squamish Nation.
